Clément De Porre

Clément De Porre

Gent 1874 - Ledeberg 1950

Clément De Porre was a painter, draftsman and watercolourist. He was a professional violinist and was trained at the conservatory in Ghent. He enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent for his arts education. His preferred subjects were figures, landscapes and cityscapes. De Porre joined the Dendermonde School. His work evolved to Intimism and was marked by the typical melancholic atmosphere. The result showed a more impressionistic direction. From 1907 to 1912 Clement stayed in Sint-Martens-Latem where critics described him as a poet of the landscape. His art is a musical feast of shapes and colours.
